Family Background

I was born in the Forest of Dean, in Gloucestershire in 1945. I am the 2nd eldest of 7 children born to Marjorie and Albert Morse. I have 5 brothers and 1 sister who are all resident in the UK.

Marjorie was 6th of 12 children born to Beatrice (Bailey) and Walter Cooper. Albert was the 7th of 10 children born to my other Grandparents, Lucy (James) and William Ernest Morse.

As a young family we lived in the village of Yorkley where we attended Yorkley Infants & Junior School (Note 1) and Yorkley Slade Methodist Church Sunday School (Note 2). We moved to Stoke-on-Trent in 1955 when the decline of the Forest coal mines meant that Dad had to take his skills elsewhere.

For a full account of our move to Stoke go to  the Leaving Yorkley button, above.

Mum and Dad are no longer with us, but the family, although now dispersed, is still a very close one.

I married Ann in 1967 and we have 2 married daughters, Alison and Jenny, and two grandsons Joel and Jamie Dockerty.

The photograph in this link is not of any family members but shows

Dad's cousin Dorothy James who was a teacher to Allan & Ken at

Yorkley School.

This link to this photograph, and the one above, was discovered by

brother Steve and shows Allan, Ken, Roland and Steve in 1954 at a

Sunday School ceremony.

Another photograph taken a year earlier is in the link opposite.
